AMR MP3 Converter FAQ

AMR MP3 Converter converts AMR to MP3 and MP3 to AMR. It's an ALL-IN-ONE audio converter that supports more than 90 audio and video files as input, and keeps ID3 tag when converting. AMR MP3 Converter also supports batch conversion.

What's AMR?

Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) is an audio data compression scheme optimized for speech coding. AMR was adopted as the standard speech codec by 3GPP in October 1998 and is now widely used in GSM and UMTS. It uses link adaptation to select from one of eight different bit rates based on link conditions. AMR is also a file format for storing spoken audio using the AMR codec. Many modern mobile telephone handsets will allow you to store short recordings in the AMR format.

What's AWB?

Adaptive Multi Rate - WideBand (AMR-WB) is a speech coding standard developed after the AMR using same technology like ACELP. The codec provides excellent speech quality due to wider speech bandwidth of 50-7000 Hz compared to narrowband speech codecs which in general are optimized for POTS wireline quality of 300-3400 Hz. AMR-WB is codified as G.722.2, an ITU-T standard speech code.

  • Enable DTX: Discontinuous transmission (DTX) is a method of momentarily powering-down, or muting, a mobile or portable wireless telephone set when there is no voice input to the set. This optimizes the overall efficiency of a wireless voice communications system. In a typical two-way conversation, each individual speaks slightly less than half of the time. If the transmitter signal is switched on only during periods of voice input, the duty cycle of the telephone set can be cut to less than 50 percent. This conserves battery power, eases the workload of the components in the transmitter amplifiers, and reduces interference. For more information about DTX, please click here.

    • > 100% - Amplify sound
    For example:
    • 50%: Reduce sound to half of original audio
    • 200%: Double sound of original audio
  2. Output as WAV: Similar to MP3, just click "WAV Options" tab instead.
  3. Output as OGG: Similar to MP3, just click "OGG Options" tab instead.
  4. Output as AMR/AWB: Similar to MP3, just click "AMR Options" tab instead.
